The Register of Deeds is the chief executive of the Registry of Deeds, elected every six years in a district (MA has 21 districts) as established by ch. 36 of the MA General Laws (see below). The Register is responsible for hiring personnel, managing day to day operations of the Registry, negotiating contracts, and working with the secretary of state. The registry records and makes public all transactions affecting real estate, and provides other services listed in these links below.
